What are AC Compressor Lubricants?

An A/C compressor is the heart of the air conditioning system responsible for keeping refrigerant moving through the system to remove heat from the passenger cabin and dumping it outside the car to keep the passengers cool.

TSI Supercool PAG (polyalkylene glycol) and POE (polyol ester) compressor lubricants are a specialized blend of conditioners, inhibitors, anti-wear agents and synthetic base oils which provide necessary lubricating and anti-wear properties for the air conditioning compressor while being compatible with the refrigerant used in the system.

Why Different Compressor Lubricants Are Used in 1234yf Systems

Because HFO-1234yf is an unstable molecule, interactions in the air conditioning system can cause initiator radicals to form that may cause the breakdown (olefinic bond splitting) of the refrigerant. In order to help prevent this potential chemical instability additional chemistry has been formulated into TSI Supercool YF PAG and POE lubricants to make them an enhanced product designed specifically for HFO-1234yf air conditioning systems. Standard R-134a PAG and POE oils do not have this enhanced property and should not be used in HFO-1234yf A/C systems. However, lubricants designed for 1234yf systems may be used in R-134a systems as the special additive in TSI Supercool YF lubricants helps to prevent acid formation in 134a systems too.
